Sitio De Calahonda is a small town in Andalusia, southern Spain. It lies on the coast about halfway between Fuengirola and Marbella, and is part of the municipality of Mijas.
Calahonda is the heart of the Costa del Sol. Many other towns are easily accessible by car. Malaga 20min, Marbella 15min, Ronda 70min, Gibraltar 75min, Nerja 75min.
From Calahonda you can run, walk or cycle along the coast to Mijas, as the cities are linked by a fantastic costal path.
Enchanting
Blessed with beautiful weather, straddling the thin strip of land between rugged mountains and the silky shimmer of the Mediterranean and attracting plenty of tourists each year, Calahonda is a firm favourite with families, couples, retirees, golfers and groups of younger holidaymakers.
Calahonda is one of the most beautiful Andalusian villages. It is neat and tidy, with charming Andalusian houses lining the roads leading up the mountain. It has a romantic atmosphere like no other. And at the top of the hill, the panorama of the sea is stunning.
In Calahonda, dental, veterinary, cosmetic and hairdressing services are available in English. There are also several supermarkets in the town.
Calahonda is busy in winter and summer, but fortunately not crowded. Parking is free in most places in the city.
Hangouts
Calahonda and neighbouring Cala de Mijas are also bustling all year round.
There are many British and Irish bars in these cities, where music nights are often held.
A variety of carnivals, festivals and concerts take place throughout the year. Car shows, sporting events, cultural and art fairs, film and theater festivals are held in the area.
Golf
The Costa del Sol is now one of the world’s top golf destinations. There are more than 70 golf clubs in the area. The nearest is a 10-minute walk from the apartment. La Siesta Golf has nine-hole par-three course, various sports on offer at Club del Sol, plentiful shopping and diverse dining options.
Next to the Golf Club there are tennis and paddle courts are available seven days a week. Indoor competition swimming pools are also available in nearby Fuengirola and Mijas.
Delights
The nearest restaurant Miel Y Nata is within walking distance from the apartment. Authentic Andalusian steaks, Spanish wines and fresh sea food await you. It is recommended to book in advance as restaurants are full, especially in the summer season.
Along the beach are plenty of well-priced eateries and exclusive beach bars (Luna Beach, Max Beach, El Oceano, Nikki Beach), serving everything from fresh fish and seafood to burgers, pizzas and pasta dishes.
There are also several chiringuitos right on the beach. These coastal spots are relaxed and authentic, with freshly caught fish from the sea grilled on open fires. A large number of sunbeds are also provided for guests in season.
Cross the highway and the commercial centres become the next hub of activity.
Nightlife
The cool clubs of Marbella and Puerto Banús are a short drive away, while the residential areas of inland Calahonda have a fine smattering of quieter watering holes that are ideal for late-night drinks with family and friends.
